Three Weight Loss Diet Tips for Better Health
Monitor your portions
To lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you consume. It’s no secret that portion control aids in weight loss. Sounds simple… but looks are often deceiving.
I have found that most people overeat during meals. The most common reason isn’t due to hunger, but due to food packaging or presentation (in restaurants) and distractions.
My suggestions are to read nutrition labels for serving sizes, eat most meals at home, and don’t eat while doing other activities. Be mindful of not only what you eat, but how much can eat; this can go a long way with your weight loss efforts and maintenance.
Cut Back on Carbohydrates and Sugars
Carbohydrates and sugars are found in foods like bread, pasta, sweets, and potatoes. Carbs are a source of energy for our body. In excess of what your body needs, however, it will transform carbohydrates into glucose and store in various forms including fat. I have found that most people consume way more sugar than they think, including their level of carbohydrate intake.
By just lowering your daily carb and sugar intake, you can potentially help your body lose a tremendous amount of body fat.
Eat Healthy Snacks Throughout the Day
Eating smaller, frequent meals does aid in weight loss. There is much data that shows the effect on supporting your metabolism as well as insulin levels. Modern trends have fallen away from the traditional three meals per day. Instead, listen to your hunger cues. Eat when you are hungry (even while losing weight), just select healthy options and foods high in nutrients as they will aid in longer satiety.
My favorite smart snacks are fruit, nuts, yogurt, or protein shakes. Use them to prevent excess hunger or overeating throughout the day.
There is no doubt that practicing portion control, monitoring your sugar intake, and snacking smart throughout the day will lead to a healthy eating pattern and ultimately weight loss. By following these weight loss diet tips, you are sure to be healthier, happier and have more energy!
